My son has been loving the idea of fishing. And since I don’t think I could see her bing myself to fish I thought I would make him this diy magnet fishing game.
Before I had kids, I would go camping every year. And although I wouldn’t fish, my family would on occasion. I’m super excited to start taking my kid’s camping this year and make it a tradition.
My husband loves to fish. So, even though I can only provide my son with this pretend experience, I’m sure my husband will provide him with the real experience one day 😂.

To Get Started This is What You’ll Need:
- Pipe Cleaners
- Strong Magnet
- Hot Glue
- Bottle Cap or Pouch Cap
We started to put together this activity by making the fish first. All you’ll need for this step are pipe cleaners and scissors.
First, take some pipe cleaners and cut them into shorter pieces. Take the shorter pieces and twist them together at the end to create a fish shape.
Next, it’s time to make the fishing pole. You can either make one like I will show you down below OR use a magnet wand!
These magnets are safe for kids to use and work great picking up our pipe cleaner fish.
If you prefer to make your own, start by gathering the rest of the materials from the list above. To start, use hot glue to secure the magnet to the bottle or pouch cap.
Next, use glue to attach the string to the bottle cap or tie it to the cap if you have that option.
Finally, tie your string to a stick, we used a chopstick. And there you have it, your very own fishing pole!
This activity is perfect for practising motor skills and patience and not to mention so much fun! Put the fishes in water in a bowl or small pool to add to the fun!
